It’s sad how the battery backup of a laptop does not last more than 3-4 hours. Only some laptops provide battery backup up to 5-6 hours. I always had a question in my mind, Why doesn’t the companies also do concentrate on the laptop battery life as equally as they do on configuring it with high end specifications? But who’s got to answer our questions? None. We must choose the best laptops that suit our usage. For example, if you are not interested in gamin, it’s a waste to have 2GB Graphic card on your board. Every specification counts for the battery life of the laptop. Let’s know some basic steps that you could do to increase laptop battery life.
Despite all the specifications of your laptop, it will be some times very frustrating if it doesn’t give you a good battery life. These simple steps you follow will help you boost up your laptop’s battery life.
REDUCE THE SCREEN BRIGHTNESS
It is a known fact that a reduced screen brightness will help you extend battery backup. Try to reduce the screen brightness when it is not necessary. Choose your plan in control panel-> Appearance and personalization -> Display -> Adjust Brightness. You can chose to select the brightness level when the laptop runs on a battery and also when it’s charging. This simple step saves you around 10-20 minutes of back up.
TURN OFF THE WIRELESS NETWORKS WHEN NOT NEEDED
Generally, we use WiFi and Bluetooth networks on our laptop. This consumes a lot of battery life. Try turning of the Bluetooth and WiFi when you don’t use them. Leaving them turned on consumes about 20-30% of your battery life. Try to keep the laptop in Airplane mode when you don’t use them. This gives an additional of about 5-15 min of back up.
DO NOT ALWAYS USE YOUR LAPTOP PLUGGED IN
It is also not suggestible to use your laptop plugged in always. Charge your laptop and use it on battery. Always using it while plugged in, reduces the battery capacity. Do not charge until the charge percent falls down to about 30% or less. In case, it is very important to have your battery later, then there is no other option but to use while plugged in. Following this helps your battery perform 60-70% better.
LAPTOP IN SLEEP MODE CONSUMES BATTERY
Generally many people (including me), use sleep mode often. I shut down my laptop once a day at the end. All the time, I keep it in sleep mode. This helps you to access the control faster when you want it, but reduces the battery life. If you are sure you will not need your laptop for more than 3-4 hours, its better you turn off it rather than to put it in sleep mode. A laptop in sleep mode for about 6-8 hours consumes around 3-0-40% of its battery backup.
Apart from these, having a low configured laptop will give you more battery backup. Following these steps will give you about 30 minutes of extra back up which you may not realize immediately. But, there will surely be a change.
