micromax-canvas-4 A210

Hey geeko! In this post I am going to guide you on “How to revert back to Canvas 4 stock ROM from any custom ROM previously installed (like MIUI or others)”. You can also go through Installing MIUI custom ROM on Canvas 4 to get details about the custom ROM and steps to flash it. If you’re reading this, you probably must have messed with your device. Well, that shouldn’t be a problem! In no time let us see how to recover your Micromax A210 Canvas 4 to the factory setting i.e., Canvas 4 Stock ROM. This article will be helpful for all those who want to get back to their stock ROM from a custom installed ROM on Canvas 4.

Possible Problems With MiUi Custom ROM

The reasons for you wanting to revert back to the Canvas 4 stock ROM might be many. I personally faced a few issues after using the MiUi custom ROM on my Canvas 4 A210: like the device started showing “com.android.gallery not responding” or “com.android.camera not responding” pop-ups. People who face Bootloop issues (where your device continuously restarts and never opens up to the Home screen) can make use of this guide to revert back to Canvas 4 Custom ROM if you are prepared to lose your data on the phone.

In most of the cases, this kind of problems occur, if you accidentally remove some system files or default applications after rooting.

If you’re half-aware of custom ROM and somehow managed to flash it successfully, you might not face any problem in the beginning. Few bugs can be noticed when you start using it thoroughly. Suddenly your device might start behaving abnormally (not in all cases). Few issues I personally faced are: “Whenever I restart my phone, it goes to factory reset or when I get a call, the device hangs.” This can happen when you try to deal with system apps or when you load much of applications that are not manageable by the custom ROM you flashed. Stock ROM is always standard. Though it is restricted to some extent, it remains stable till the end.

Now that you have already decided to flash Canvas 4 Stock ROM, you need to spend little of your valuable time to download the necessary files. Files needed to be downloaded are:

Note: You need to remove the battery of your Micromax Canvas 4 A210 before you connect it to the PC.

The device drivers should be installed automatically when it is connected to your PC. If it doesn’t you can download these drivers for windows. Follow the links to download the drivers.

Steps Involved In Flashing Canvas 4 Stock ROM

For successfully flashing the Canvas 4 Stock ROM, you just have to follow the steps very carefully. I advice you to first go through the entire process, before you actually start the process.

NOTE: We are not responsible for any possible negative results on your device during the process of flashing the Stock ROM on Canvas 4. It is purely on your risk.

However, if you do it in the right way, there wouldn’t be any as such. I have personally installed the same on my device with no issues. Now, getting back to the process of installation:

Step 1: Turn off the device, remove the battery and connect it to your PC with USB cable.

Step 2: Extract the stock ROM .zip file and it should have MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt file. This file is used for mapping the files required for the flashing of stock ROM.

Step 3: Install SP Flashtool you initially have downloaded. You can see scatter-loading button on the right, once the software is launched.

Step 4: By default you’ll have “Download-agent” fixed with its path, so you need not mess with it. Just select the MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt file by clicking on Scatter-Loading button and it will load all the files of stock ROM to the Flashtool.

Step 5: Now click on “Download” button and attach your device without battery to the PC using USB cord. Note that ‘Download’, doesn’t mean that the files are downloaded from the internet.

Step 6: Once if your device is detected, it will take sometime to flash showing status below. If everything is done well, the Flashtool will indicate the sign of completion by a dialog box with a “Download OK” message as shown below.

Method 2:

If the above method is unclear you can follow another method of flashing stock ROM. In this method we don’t use a PC or a Flashtool to flash the ROM. Note that this method is applicable only if your Canvas 4 is rooted. You can check my guide to root your device (Steps To Root Your Device Section).

Requirements to follow the method 2 are as follows.

  1. A Rooted Micromax Canvas 4
  2. Custom recovery-CWM
  3. Canvas 4 Stock ROM
  4. MTK Uncle tools – Download from Play Store.

Steps To Flash Canvas 4 Custom ROM in Method 2

Step 1: Download CWM recovery and Stock ROM to the device. See that they are not placed in any folders instead they should be placed in the root of the SD card.

Step 2: Extract the A210_recovery.rar file you downloaded in the previous step. You should see a .img file after extracting it. See that it is in root of SD card again.

Step 3: Now download MTK Uncle tools from the Google play store. When you open it you will see “Recovery Update”. Click on that and select the recovery.img file from the list. A pop-up rises giving a sign of rebooting your device.

Step 4: This leads you to recovery mode and CWM comes up. Now, select WIPE DATA/ FACTORY RESET and reset your device.

Step 5: In the next step, select WIPE CACHE and clear the cached data. Then select “INSTALL/UPDATE FROM SD CARD” and select the Stock ROM file you downloaded in Step 1.

Step 6: This will take few minutes to flash the stock files and system image. Once it is done, goto “ADVANCED> WIPE DALVIK CACHE” and wipe the dalvik data. Finally get back and reboot the device.

Step 7: Now when device starts up, there should be stock rom installed. CHEERS!! You made it!!

Make sure you are dealing with relevant stuff. If you try this process on models other than Micromax A210 Canvas 4 there are chances of your phone being permanently damaged. So be careful while following each step. If you’re facing any kind of problem with your phone, this is a simple way to solve it. You can do it by yourself instead of going to service centers and wasting your money there. The process will be almost same for all the devices but the files to be downloaded varies.
